Periodic Inspection Reports (PIR)

Every electrical installation should be inspected periodically to ensure;

  • The safety of persons or livestock against the effects of electric shock or burns
  • Protection against damage to property by fire and heat arising from an installation defect
  • Confirmation that the installation is not damaged or deteriorated so as to impair safety
  • The identification of installation defects and non-compliance with the requirements of BS7671 which may give rise to danger.

Regulation 4(2) of the Electricity At Work Regulations 1989 requires that all systems and apparatus are maintained so as to prevent danger. Hence, electrical installations are periodically inspected, tested and certified.

The frequency of periodic inspections is set out in Guidance note 3 to BS7671. A typical commercial building should have a routine or non invasive inspection every 12 months and a full periodic test every 5 years.

eti’s qualified engineers are experienced in conducting PIR’s in a wide variety of premises from Domestic Properties, Small Offices and Licensed Premises to Industrial Facilities, Breweries and Distilleries.

The following two examples of recent projects will provide you with a guide to what is involved.

Sample Project 1  -   Industrial Production Facility
Sample Project 2  -   Office Block
